Ethics Code for Discimus Journal Based on COPE Guidelines
The Discimus Journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and ethics in academic publishing. Inspired by the guidelines of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), we have developed this code of ethics to guide our editors, authors, and reviewers in their ethical responsibilities throughout the publication process.
Originality
•Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscripts are original works and have not been previously published nor are under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Authorship
•All those who have made significant contributions to the work must be listed as authors. Names of authors who have not significantly contributed should not be added.
Source Acknowledgment
•Authors must properly cite works that have influenced the nature of their work.
Conflict of Interest
•Any financial or personal interest that may influence the results or interpretations of their manuscript must be disclosed.
Errors in Published Works
•If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is their obligation to notify the journal and cooperate to correct the article.
Plagiarism
•Manuscripts must be original works. Any form of plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in the immediate rejection of the article.
Peer Review Process
•All submitted articles will be reviewed by experts in the field. Both reviewers and authors must maintain confidentiality throughout the process.
Editor’s Rights
•The editor has the right to reject any manuscript for reasons of quality, ethics, or any other valid reason, provided these reasons are clearly communicated to the author.
Confidentiality
•All information presented in manuscripts will be treated with strict confidentiality.
Transparency
•All decisions made by reviewers or editors will be communicated to the authors with their respective reasons.
Respect
•Both authors and reviewers are expected to maintain respectful and professional language in all communications.
Non-discrimination
•No form of discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, etc., will be permitted.
Responsibilities of Editors:
1. Impartiality: Editors must evaluate manuscripts solely based on their academic merit and relevance to the journal’s scope, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, or the political philosophy of the authors.
2. Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff will not disclose information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisors, and the publisher.
3. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors will not use unpublished manuscript content in their own research without the explicit written consent of the author.
Responsibilities of Reviewers:
1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and, through editorial communications with the author, may also help the author improve the paper.
2. Timeliness: Any reviewer selected who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that a prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse themselves from the review process.
3. Confidentiality: Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document.
4. Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
Responsibilities of Authors:
Informed Consent: Studies involving human subjects must have explicit informed consent from participants. For vulnerable populations, such as children, consent must be obtained from both the parents or guardians and the minors when appropriate.
Anonymity and Confidentiality: Participant identities will be protected through anonymity, and all information collected will be treated with strict confidentiality. Authors must ensure that personal data and any information that could reveal participants’ identities are properly safeguarded.
Ethical Committee Approval: Studies involving human participation must obtain approval from an institutional ethics committee (IRB or equivalent). Authors must attach evidence of this approval when submitting the article.
Protection of Vulnerable Populations: In research involving vulnerable populations, such as minors or marginalized communities, authors must take additional precautions to ensure that the rights and welfare of participants are respected.
Reporting Standards: Authors of original research reports must present an accurate account of the work performed and an objective discussion of its significance.
Data Access and Retention: Authors may be asked to provide raw data for editorial review and should be prepared to provide public access to such data.
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: Authors should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal.
Procedures for Addressing Unethical Behavior:
1.Identification of Unethical Behavior: Misconduct in publication can be identified and brought to the attention of the editor at any time.
2.Investigation: The editor will facilitate a fair and appropriate investigation and consult COPE for guidance.
3.Resolutions: These include correction of the publication, retraction, expression of concern, or removal of the article.
This Code of Ethics is a living document, intended to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of the academic community and the ethical standards of publication. The Discimus Journal is committed to reviewing it periodically to ensure its alignment with the most ethical and responsible editorial practices.
